NU-YAR Construction Turns Five

Five years ago, in the middle of a global crisis, NU-YAR Construction quietly came to life. David had just been laid off, and after spending time on house projects and tinkering in the yard he dusted off his tool belt and went to work on a side project for the first time in over 30 years. It wasn’t easy on the body, but something clicked. One afternoon, he walked in and simply said, “I think I’m ready to start another business.”

We’d owned a construction company once before in Minnesota, though I didn’t expect we’d ever do it again. I’d been focused on my consulting work for the past 15 years, and truthfully, I thought that chapter had closed. But I didn’t hesitate. I called our attorney, filed the paperwork, and reached out to a friend for a logo. Within a few days, both the lawyer and the designer hired us for projects—and just like that, NU-YAR Construction was up and running.
In those early days David awas working in the field. After a short while—and a twisted ankle—David realized his strengths were better used in the office. From there, we started to grow.
Where We Are Today
Since hiring our first employees in 2021, our team has grown to 12 strong—with more hires planned this fall, including carpenters and additional leadership roles. Our project schedule is full through the end of the year and into 2026. We recently moved into a new office and shop space in Gray, Maine. Our daughter has joined full-time as our Office Manager. Like any business, we’ve weathered transitions and tested our resilience.

We’re incredibly grateful. This journey hasn’t been linear or easy, but it’s been meaningful. And most importantly—it’s been shared.
Celebrating the Journey
This September, we’re marking our five-year anniversary not just by looking back—but by looking around. We’re celebrating the relationships we’ve built, the reputation we’ve earned, and the people who have shown up for us time and again.
As we reflect, we’re especially thankful for the trust of our clients, the dedication of our team, and the support of our partners. This celebration is about community—it’s about everyone who’s been a part of our growth and our grit.
In just five years, NU-YAR Construction has become a thriving, values-driven company serving clients across southern Maine. We're proud of the work we do, and even prouder of how we do it.
Some Highlights from the Past Five Years

What Sets NU-YAR Apart

We don’t strive to be the biggest. We strive to be the most dependable.

We lead with humility, honesty, and hard work.
We emphasize communication, clarity, and continuous growth.
We prioritize our people—because a strong culture isn’t optional. It’s everything.
We're proud of the name on our trucks, but even more proud of the people behind it.
Looking Ahead: Vision 2030
The next five years will be about deepening what we’ve built—not chasing growth for growth’s sake.
We’re committed to:
Growing with intention—maintaining strong margins while keeping our small-company feel.
Investing in leadership and talent development.
Refining our brand and operations to reflect our values and future direction.
We’ll continue to evolve, adapt, and improve—always with a clear purpose and a strong foundation.
