Five Years Building Future Leaders

At NU-YAR Construction, we believe that great projects start with great people—and strong leadership is built, not assumed.

Over the past five years, I’ve had the opportunity to facilitate young professionals through ABC Maine’s leadership development program. What began as a professional commitment has become one of the most meaningful parts of my work—and one that directly aligns with how we grow our team at NU-YAR.

Each year, I work with a new group of emerging leaders across the construction industry. They come from different companies and backgrounds, but they share a common goal: to grow as leaders.

And they do.

This program is more than a class; it’s an investment. Employers invest in their people, and participants invest in themselves. The result is leaders who are more confident, more intentional, and better equipped to contribute to their teams and organizations.

Over the years, I’ve watched individuals step outside their comfort zones, develop their voice, and take on real challenges within their companies. Their ROI projects alone create measurable impact—saving time, improving processes, and strengthening teams.

This year, that impact hit especially close to home.

One of our own NU-YAR team members, Jack Brown, participated in the program, and I had the privilege of watching his growth firsthand. He pushed himself well beyond his comfort zone, especially with speaking. He showed up, did the work, and leaned in to his growth as a leader. I am so proud of him!

That’s what leadership looks like. Not perfection, but willingness.

There’s a lot of conversation about the future of construction. From where I stand, I’m optimistic. I see leaders who are thoughtful, engaged, and committed to doing better for their teams, their companies, and their communities.
