At NU-YAR Construction, we know that success isn’t just about the quality of our craftsmanship—it’s about the strength of our team. We’re a family-owned business that believes in doing things the right way, not just in how we build, but in how we treat our people. We are not perfect, but we are intentional about making culture a priority.

A great company culture doesn’t happen by accident. It takes intention, leadership, and a commitment to supporting each other, working hard, and always improving. That’s what we aim to do every day.

Here’s what makes our team at NU-YAR strong—and why we believe that culture is just as important as construction.

We Hire for Skill & Character

In construction, skills matter. But at NU-YAR, who you are matters just as much. We look for:

  • Craftsmanship & Experience – We want people who take pride in their work and are always looking to improve.

  • A Strong Work Ethic – Reliability, accountability, and teamwork are non-negotiables.

  • A Positive Attitude – Construction comes with challenges, and we want team members who find solutions instead of making excuses.

We’ve built a team-first culture, and that starts with hiring people who share our values. Skills can be taught—character is what sets people apart.

Communication & Respect Are Non-Negotiables

At NU-YAR, clear communication is the backbone of our projects and our company culture. Whether it’s in the field, the office, or with our clients, we believe in being upfront, honest, and respectful in every conversation.

How we make communication work:

  • Clear Expectations – We ensure everyone understands their role and responsibilities from the start.

  • Team Meetings & Check-Ins – We have monthly team lunches and quarterly leadership meetings with our team. As owners, we meet weekly to ensure we are staying on track and are communicating clearly across the company.

  • Constructive Feedback – Mistakes happen, but we focus on learning and improving, not blaming.

Our job sites run efficiently because our team respects one another and communicates openly—two things that are just as important as a good set of blueprints.

We Lead from the Front

At NU-YAR, leadership isn’t about sitting behind a desk and barking orders. We believe in leading by example.

  • We set high standards. If we expect quality work, we need to demonstrate quality leadership. We are continually looking for ways to improve ourselves as leaders. Again, we are not perfect, but we are committed to continually pushing ourselves to grow and lead with integrity.

  • We hold ourselves accountable. A strong team starts with leadership that takes responsibility. As leaders, we have outside consultants and mentors to challenge us and to hold our feet to the fire

A company’s culture is shaped from the top down. When leadership puts in the effort, the whole team follows suit.

We Invest in Our Team’s Growth

NU-YAR Construction isn’t just about completing projects—we’re about building careers. We believe in giving our team the tools and opportunities to grow within the company.

  • Ongoing Training – We take two full days a year to do off-site training with our crew. In addition, we take advantage of other training opportunities throughout the year. This year, we will be sending one of our employees to the ABC Young Professionals Program and another to Lead Carpenter training. In the office, we participate in ongoing training around leadership, running a family business, and construction-related topics. We are members of ABC Maine and IFOB. Michelle serves on the board of Directors and as the Membership Vice-Chair for ABC Maine. In addition, Brittni serves on the Workforce Development committee.

  • Mentorship & Leadership Development – We provide opportunities for experienced team members to mentor the next generation. Michelle leads the ABC Young Professionals Program and is committed to helping our younger generation grow in the trades. We have one employee currently enrolled in the ABC Apprentice program, and hopefully will have one or two more enter the program this year.

  • Opportunities to Advance – We believe hard work and dedication should lead to career growth. We are on a growth trajectory with lots of opportunities for growth within our company.

When people know they have a future with NU-YAR, they stay. And that helps us build a stronger, more experienced team.

Hard Work Deserves Recognition

We ask a lot of our team, but we also make sure they know they’re valued. A culture of appreciation fosters high morale and motivates people.

  • Recognition for a Job Well Done – A simple “great work today” goes a long way, and we make it a habit. We make an effort to thank and appreciate our employees.

  • Bonuses & Incentives – When the team wins, everyone benefits.

  • Team Gatherings & Celebrations – We’re a family business, and that means we celebrate our team like family, too. We do a few fun events every year with our employees and their families. We have our team lunches and try to surprise them with treats on the job site.

A positive workplace isn’t just about getting the job done—it’s about making sure people enjoy being part of the team. I truly LOVE our team.

We Prioritize Safety & Well-Being

Construction is demanding work, and we never take safety for granted. At NU-YAR, the health and well-being of our team always come first.

  • Safety Protocols – We follow best practices and ensure every crew member has the right training. Our safety officer leads safety meetings each week and makes sure the team has all they need for safety.

  • Work-Life Balance – We understand that family and personal time matter, and we work to support a balanced lifestyle. We do not regularly work overtime and rarely work on the weekends. We believe our team needs time to enjoy their life outside of work - this makes them better employees.

  • A Team-First Mindset – We look out for one another. If someone needs help, we step up. We do it because we care.

We Believe in Teamwork—Always

At NU-YAR Construction, we succeed together. A strong team doesn’t just mean skilled workers—it means people who respect, trust, and rely on each other.

  • Collaboration Over Competition – We work as one team, with a shared goal of delivering quality craftsmanship.

  • Open Doors & Open Minds – Ideas and input from every team member are valued.

  • A Supportive Environment – Whether it’s training a new hire or helping a teammate solve a problem, we believe in lifting each other up.

Construction isn’t a one-man job—it takes a well-oiled crew that works together, and that’s what we’ve built at NU-YAR.

Strong Culture, Strong Company, Stronger Builds

At NU-YAR Construction, our team is more than just workers—we’re a family. And when you build a company culture based on respect, hard work, and growth, you create a team that’s motivated, skilled, and proud of what they do. We can not do what we do with do without our team. They are the MOST important part of our business.
